Road trip to Solace.!

Imagine you are on a speed boat headed nowhere in the thick blanket of night.

The wind is hoarse, fencing wildly with your hair and despite the rush forward, there is a quiet spread all around you. After what seemed like thirty minutes into this ride, the boat comes to a halt and the driver rings a hushed bell to wake you up in case your senses have given into the dull roar.

You wake up adjusting your eyes to see something other than nothingness.

And suddenly, you see a quick flick of light and it’s gone in the next pulse. Then again.

And as you slowly become part of this moment, starting with fewer, thousands of fireflies flicker on and off before your widened eyes.

With all my luck and nagging to make it happen, I experienced this magical night in Kuala Selangor a few weeks ago on a road trip with friends. We took a bus on Saturday morning from Singapore to Johor, a border city in Malaysia and rented a car. The trip was a ride rolled with laughter, snacks and flowing conversations. As we reached Kuala Selangor, we went to the coast where hundreds of people awaited for their turn in the boat against reserved charts.

Each boat consisted of 10-12 people all oblivious to the enchanting experience that awaits them.

There were no stars in the sky, the moon was faint and all around me the water sparkled with the miniature flicks of these fireflies.

I still sometimes find myself in the wake of the night recalling these precious moments of bliss. What I found amusing was the fact no one on the boat spoke through it. Even me and my husband tangled our fingers loosely and sipped through the quiet. The only soothing voice came from a small Chinese girl singing twinkle twinkle little star to the sky and although I couldn’t gather the lyrics I found it oddly comforting and wished silently she never had to stop.

Nature has this falsely true power over us and if you can, I would want you to add watching fireflies into your bucket list because then you’ll see for yourselves what it is to get absorbed into the core of your being.

Camera couldn’t do justice to what we saw with the natural lens but I want to leave you with a vision.

The insane gang who made it to the most serene of the places and yet be themselves,  crazy little bugs.!
